Ruby Valley stretches along the east face of the Ruby Mountains, big cattle country dotted with historic ranches, the Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge at its south end, and the site of Fort Ruby, the 1862 post that guarded the Overland and Pony Express route.

Homes here are ranch headquarters, ranchettes, and off-grid retreats; distances are real, the school bus ride is long, and neighbors measure land in sections. Buyers come for elbow room and stay for the light on the Rubies.
